The US space agency completed the preliminary design review (PDR) of its Quiet Supersonic Transport (QueSST) aircraft design.
QueSST is the initial design stage of NASA’s planned Low Boom Flight Demonstration (LBFD) experimental airplane, otherwise known as an X-plane. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/nasas-quiter-supersonic-jet-closer-to-reality/article19159630.ece
Uranus lies and rotates on its side, and its magnetic field is lopsided — tilted 60 degrees from its axis. Those features cause the magnetic field to tumble asymmetrically relative to the solar wind direction as the icy giant completes its 17.24-hour full rotation. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/uranus-magnetic-field-flips-on-and-off-study/article19155885.ece
What are perovskite solar cells?
They represent the most exciting approach to build  solar  cells that are inexpensive and highly efficient. A perovskite solar cell is one that includes a perovskite-structured compound, most commonly a hybrid organic-inorganic lead or tin halide-based material, as the light-harvesting active layer. The terms “perovskite” and “perovskite structure” are often used interchangeably.  https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/what-are-perovskite-solar-cells/article19778748.ece
In India, while the number of women in STEM is increasing, the percentage of women in workforce in STEM and entrepreneurship continues to be a woefully low 12.7 %, with 40 % of female engineers remaining unemployed. GITF brings together industry experts, government officials, startup ecosystem enablers, V-Cs, entrepreneurs, organisational heads or representatives, corporate, social sector and key decision-makers from corporate to institutions as mentors for women who are graduating from colleges, women professionals, returning mothers, and women entrepreneurs.  https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/andhra-pradesh/womens-representation-in-stem-low-union-minister/article19526212.ece
Absolute zero is 0 kelvin or -273.15°C and the closer they get to this limit, the better the chances of conducting experiments at the quantum level and observing entirely new physical phenomena. The recent cooling is the best yet achieved and for that the researchers employed a technique called magnetic cooling. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/demystifying-science-what-is-magnetic-cooling/article22335108.ece
The type of plastic — conventional, degradable and biodegradable — had no effect on the rate of ingestion, however the presence of a biofilm meant the shredding took place around four times as quickly. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/energy-and-environment/how-marine-organisms-degrade-plastic-bags/article21386109.ece
What are soft robots?

The typical image of robots is of a bulky machine in car manufacturing plants. These are hunks of steel made to resemble human arms and seemingly good at a few other things apart from producing assembly-line chassis. Soft robots are more malleable and can bend and flex and interact better with living organisms. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/demystifying-science-december-3-2017/article21250673.ece
Terahertz imaging is a scanning technique that uses extremely high frequency waves to penetrate dense surfaces. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/what-is-terahertz-imaging/article20928683.ece
Icarus, the farthest star ever seen , used NASA's Hubble Space Telescope to spot the star.. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/meet-icarus-the-farthest-star-ever-seen/article23425715.ece
NASA has delayed the launch of its much awaited, $8 billion James Webb Space Telescope — set to be the world’s biggest space observatory — until at least May 2020. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/biggest-space-telescope-launch-delayed/article23374908.ece
Quantum supremacy, or “quantum advantage”, is the potential ability of quantum computing devices to solve problems that classical computers cannot. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/what-is-quantum-supremacy/article24002776.ece

Adults in urban areas and those with a higher household wealth, are more at risk, Two recent national surveys of nearly 8,00,000 adults between 34 and 70 years, has found that people of Kerala — across sexes — were most at risk of cardiovascular diseases while those in Jharkhand were least likely to have the condition. A gender break down, however, puts the women of Goa at highest mean cardiovascular risk at 16.73% while men in Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland were most vulnerable with mean cardiovascular risk of 24.23%.https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/kerala-most-at-risk-of-cardiovascular-disease-finds-national-survey/article24203625.ece

Turbidity currents are fast-moving currents that sweep down submarine canyons, carrying sand and mud into the deep sea. However, there is more to them than just sediment-laden seawater flowing over the sea floor, and they also involve large-scale movements of the sea floor itself. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/what-are-turbidity-currents/article25146022.ece
The DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill allows the use of the technology to establish the identity of persons in matters of crime, parentage dispute, emigration or immigration and transplantation of human organs.
The Bill provides for establishment of national and regional DNA data banks and each data will maintain the indices, including crime scene index, suspects’ or undertrials’ index and offenders’ index. https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/lok-sabha-passes-dna-bill/article25940769.ece

Einstein’s singularity

In his general theory of relativity, Einstein conceived of stars and planets as massive spheres that stretch the fabric of space much like a bowling ball stretches a rubber sheet, causing it to sag, and drawing lighter bodies to the heavier object in the centre.
Basically, time appears to move more slowly near massive objects because the object’s gravitational force bends space-time, a phenomenon called gravitational time dilation.
Thus, gravity was not a ‘force’ as Isaac Newton had envisaged it, but the result of a distortion in the fabric of spacetime — a continuum that extends throughout the known universe.
